Oh boy, gold at over $2800 an ounce today !! Itching to play in the rocks again.
Lots of speculation on $3000 by Fall. We'll see, I'm just happy if it sticks around $2800 !!

$2800 is nice ! I wouldn’t be surprised to see $3000 an oz gold by springtime.
I was talking with a couple of guys today while ordering steel for a new project and they were saying that they always wanted to try gold mining / prospecting… I told them right now would be a great time to go play and offered a simple scenario for them to ponder, I explained gold was $2800 an oz and if one could get just an oz per week and used a 40 hour work week as an example, $2800 split up in 40 hours would be $70 an hour ! Needless to say I saw the wheels turning in their minds lol

Haha, that is great of you to infect others with the fever Dan! Because the CAN $$ is weak against the US, the gold run and currency devaluation has pushed it up to $4,100/oz CAN! Bonkers as it was around $2800/oz a yr ago and $1200 when I first started. Lol you can be a average miner and do really well at these prices! I have ground I walked away from 10 yrs ago that now has potential because of the rise.

HMmmmmm ---------

When I first started panning back in the summer of '66 the US Government's fixed price for Gold was $35 / oz and private ownership of refined Gold, say a Gold bar or Gold coinage, was unlawful. Big time Gold smugglers would somehow get their Gold to Europe (Switzerland) which was illegal on top of illegal and would get $200 USD for that same ounce.

Of course a large take out pizza in Anchorage back then was $3.00, a carton of cigarettes was $3.50, you could smoke anywhere, except in church of course, as well as smoking on all commercial flights.

And so there I was working unbelievably long hours of overtime at seasonal construction wages ( $3.63 / hr straight time). In that late fall of '67 my last 2 week, pre-tax, paycheck before going into the Air Force was $1,000. Things were a lot different things way back in those olden days, especially compared to the craziness today.

I just got a retired military discounted haircut this afternoon for $18 and it used to cost a buck in the 60s.

If anyone is a bit fuzzy on what "Spot Price" is --- here's a pretty good write-up on it:
