Interesting thoughts about going all electric. Pluses and minuses all around. Batteries are always the weak point in this kind of situation. It reminded me of the batteries we had at the facility I worked for in Alaska. The batteries were to power huge electric starters for the huge generators we had. They took a lot of juice and were always a problem. We finally switched over to air powered starters for that reason.

The batteries were just huge and charged from commercial power sources. They were long and narrow, about 18" wide X 3 feet high X 4 feet long. If I remember correctly there were eight of them. Those would have made great batteries for the application you described.

Nice post Geo. I sell/service Level 3 DC fast chargers for EVs as my job. Many heavy equipment manufactures are going electric with Volvo leading the way with compact Exs and loaders as battery electric. The solar idea to charge a battery certainly has merit although to Jims point they are the limiting factor and also the most expensive. Now if you bought a new Lightning pickup for your minesite you would have a mobile 130kW battery that could be charged up on solar as well as having a pickup.

Now on the really big electric scale you could go this route:

Thanks for this post Chuck. I missed it the other day because I got logged out and didn't notice it. That meant that the forum didn't show me any new posts. :o
