In case you hadnt heard, the same Alaska state owned "development corporation" AIDEA that invest in such wonderful ideas, but eventual boon-doggles, such as the Delta Barley Project and Port Mckenzie shipping facility is investing $35 million of Alaskans money in a 200+ mile new road to access the Ambler Mining District in Alaska.
My guess is that the combined State and private investment in this road will all be spent on more preplanning and lawyer fees.
I would love to see this road built as long as access to the Alaskan public is not restricted like it is at the Pogo mine, and am happy our State is supporting access to the development of our Mineral Resources.

Kodiak ...
I believe the Pogo mine road was privately built and is maintained by the mine company. Yes it is on State land and I suppose at the end of mine life the State will have to decide what they will do with it.
I think Alaska will have a tough time with any new roads that deal with Federal land under the Biden administration.

Re: Ambler Access Road
I have been lucky to be one of the lucky few allowed access to the Pogo Mine road in the past. After I visited the guarded gate shack at the start of the road, and giving them a valid reason for being there. I was able to harvest a 64 inch moose on a spur logging road. Resource development and especially projects on this scale open up access to our State with benefits more than intended. I hope the state and Pogo can come to some agreement to extend the life of the mine and hence the road. I do hope the public will have access, and if not, just say you need to go prospect.

Kodiak, I did the exact same thing on the Dalton Highway many years ago. At that time the highway was closed to the public except for "certain" reasons. I used prospecting and hunting to gain access and had no problems.
