Recreational Gold Prospecting in Alaska

Post by waveaction » Mon Jan 13, 2020 12:58 pm

I have been a member since 2010 and love the information that flows through this forum.

This is the time of the year that folks are looking for a claim or somewhere to go prospecting. If your looking for an adventure of a Lifetime or more, check out Gold Fever Prospecting. Website is: goldfeveralaska.com or Facebook.

The Gold Fever Prospecting camp is located on the South Fork of the Fortymile River near Chicken Alaska. I ran the camp for Dean Race some years back before it was sold. Matt & Ginger Fontes are the new owners and 2020 will be there 3rd year and they are just wonderful folks.

If your not looking at dredging then perhaps the Chicken Gold Camp is for you. The Host are Mike & Lou Busby, and if you are in Chicken for the 4th of July you'll run into the Chickenminer. :D

Hi Kurt....
With all the uncertainty surrounding the covid-19 stuff and large crowd gatherings, the Fortymile Mining District
has decided to postpone our annual 4th of July picnic gathering this year.

Noted Dick let us know if 'things' recover for a later "Covid" date.

Still don't know if Canada / Alaska will open borders soon. If they both don't or if "things" fall wrong I might be stuck here in the lower 48 all this summer. Time will tell, I guess.

Thanks for the input Dick. Plus with the Canadian Boarder closed until June 21st Barb and I have now made plans for the lower 48 with our camper/prospecting for the Summer. Gonna miss seeing Robin and you, and all the other folks working up there that we have come to know over the years. All well, next year!

I just checked for another update - and the Canadian border is still closed until at least 21 July.

According to the Anchorage Daily Worker newspaper there IS a procedure for certain travelers returning to their documented homes in Alaska to transit Canada. I know two friends, 3 weeks ago, who were able to do just that - but there are certain restrictions like having to wear a mask whenever out of the vehicle, having to pay cash for fuel purchases, very restrictive time constraints to drive through certain areas and - and - having to record EXACTLY where the travelers will spend their mandatory 2 week quarantine in Alaska. Break the procedures in Canada and you are subject to fines or jail time.

Unless 'things' change quickly I, also, will be here, outside in Idaho, until next spring.

My passport Card expired the end of March and I applied for a renewal right away but it may still be a month or more before it is processed the folks tell me. For renewal I just had to send my old Passport Card with proper photo which I did. They cashed the check the middle of April. How the hell can it take 4 months or more for someone to process it? They must have laid off everyone but the cashier.

Yes, I too will be staying here in the lower 48 for the rest of the year now but we are making the best of it taking the camper and prospecting in other areas.

Kurt - it is simply the workers "Milking the System". Money in gets processed quickly, things out "Well, we just can't because bla, bla, bla."
