Remote prospecting and the myth's portrayed in Reality Television;
Mining television viewers represents a valuable resource for Network Television producers.
Millions of dollars are made through reality television. It's a business!

Glacier GOLD;
Glaciers are retreating!
Well... they have been retreating since the end of the LAST Ice age 30,000 years ago.
There is MORE new prospecting territory being exposed every year. These areas have been covered longer than civilization has been around! I know of one recent GOLD discovery in the last 10 years.

Prospectors are retreating;
Well, Guys and Gals... Prospectors are facing ever increasing odds...
GOLD is getting smaller. Prospectors are having to go farther out into more remote places to find GOLD.
ACCESS routes are being CUT OFF through "road management" planning.
Prospectors have a "pain threshold"... Sadly, I notice prospectors are retreating...

When the going gets tough...
When the going gets tough, the TOUGH get going!
It takes energy and motivation. The reward is there for those that persist.
Winners are a select group that spend time planning and studying. In the prospecting world, today, there are many considerations that must be made with reference to property. I watch this and other GOLD forums. I see new prospectors asking about leasing mining property. Leasing a mining property deserves a thread dedicated to that subject alone. Many situations arise where an owner of a mining property is unable to work his or her mine. This could provide an opportunity for a GOLD prospector. Due diligence is a must.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Using FREE resources;
The State of Alaska represents a rich resource for GOLD prospectors.
New data is being released almost weekly. The NEW data is the actual data base files for previous surveys where the data files were not released. The data base files can be viewed.
This information shows GOLD prospectors where to dig!
Knowing where to dig changes the task of prospecting from a mostly random search over covered ground to a better defined task of knowing where a target is and devising a plan to go to the target.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Knowing where to dig;
On the Metal Detecting Forum, I have described the process of knowing where to dig with an example of an anomaly that is located in West Forty.
Knowing where to dig is just the beginning...
This anomaly is west of Chicken. It's 60 up North Fork to Middle Fork and then another 10 or so miles across tundra and brush!
There's an operating placer GOLD mine on Middle Fork that has been working for the past 20 years.
This is an excellent example of a Remote Prospecting challenge!

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Airplane;
The placer miner on Middle Fork has scratched out an airstrip!
The availability of long stretches of dry sand aka sand bars make it possible to land a Super Cub.
During winter, frozen ground covered with snow makes it possible to fly in supplies for a base camp that supports a summer mining operation in the high ground. Because there is a probability of erosion of GOLD to Middle Fork, It may also become a placer GOLD prospect at and along this tributary.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Prospecting West Forty;
Between 1969 and 1972 six Apollo missions brought back 382 kilograms (842 pounds) of lunar rocks, core samples, pebbles, sand and dust...
With all that money we spent going to the moon and all the smart people on this forum, we should be able to make a drone that can go out in the middle of West Forty and drill some CORE samples!
Ground Truth Exploration has a remote control RAB exploration drill on tracks. Check it out!

Re: Remote Prospecting?
West Forty Access;
From available information, It is apparent that at least one miner in West Forty uses an airplane to get to his mining claims. Many remote mining locations through-out Alaska can be seen with landing strips. Flying has been a routine method of getting in and out of remote areas for many years.
The town of Tok is about 60 miles south of the prospect that was outlined over on the Metal Detecting Forum. I found two air charter services listed at Tok. They both have Super Cubs. Local pilots are probably the best resource for information on places to land along North Fork and Middle Fork. Usually they are more than willing to discuss the possible places to get in and out and provide a quote on the cost for their services.
Flying also avoids the potential problems of running the River.
