A very very fine article;

Arsenopyrite has been known as a good indicator for GOLD.

Two primary GOLD "systems" have been identified in the Tintina Gold Belt... One is Bismuth related GOLD and the other is Arsenic related.

GOLD prospectors were known to taste rocks! They were prospecting for rocks that tasted like Garlic. :o

The practice of tasting rocks is NOT recommended for health reasons! :)

Photomicrographs;

Thin slice sections are used to obtain photomicrographs...

A Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is used to get images of GOLD at the micron and smaller scale.

Here's a good reference on Carlin type GOLD mineralization including many photomicrograph images.
