Astro-turf;
The time proven matting used is Astro-turf.
Expanded metal over astro-turf works very good at catching GOLD. I have monitored sluice tailings over a number of years and never found GOLD in the tailings. In fact, the GOLD is captured in the first four feet!

A sixteen foot sluice box?
Well as explained in the prior post, the GOLD settles in the first four feet of the sluice box.
Yes, I was surprised and that led to the first revision of the prototype - the sluice box was reduced to 8 feet.
