SEDEX GOLD Deposits...

Post by Geowizard » Wed Mar 20, 2019 3:40 pm

Hi Guys and Gals,

SEDEX GOLD Deposits are common all over the world...

The GOLD is deposited as a salt water brine into stratiform sedimentary layers.

Alaska is no exception. Many shale/sandstone hosted disseminated GOLD deposits in Alaska are SEDEX Deposits!

This thread provides an opportunity to discuss this important topic. :)

Gold is precipitated from brine;

Here's a link to further references on the topic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedimenta ... e_deposits

Much of Alaska was once covered by ocean water.

Years ago a metallurgical chemist friend was producing gold from shale. He got me working on the process by revealing that this particular shale contained more than 100 oz/ton of gold as well as numerous other valuable metals, including platinum, ruthenium and iridium. Though I am no chemist I managed to set up a fairly sophisticated lab in my garage. My friend did tell me the ore was "complex" and required some very unusual chemistry to free the metals. The best I was able to do was produce a pellet of concentrate that when analyzed with an electron microprobe at Colorado School of Mines showed high concentrations of some of the metals. Though not as much as my friend had indicated, there was significant gold. The SEDEX ore is intriguing and may rekindle my interest in the shale.
