Spring 2023
Just gearing up for first 4 day trip in next week and ended up re-reading the post of my misadventures of a year ago. Lol, will be bringing in a snowmobile with me this time! I also picked up a new claim block in a area that is a lesser elevation and the locals report the snow going fast so I will in all likelihood, spend the majority of my time prospecting there.

Good luck on your first trip out! I've been busy doing equipment maintenance and
waiting for the snow/ice to melt!
Hope you find your camp in better shape than what my neighbor is going to see when he shows up ! Some weird overflow on the creeks this past winter!!

crazy last year where we mine near central alaska our neighbors.left a pretty new 5th wheel where they thought it would be safe when we got there you could not see it it was totaly coverd up with ice took until august before it melted out Doug-

Here's a solution;
The creek where I used to mine would occasionally overflow in winter and create what local miners referred to as a "Glacier".
Glacier ice has a characteristic light blue color.
I needed to cross the glacier with a loader and sprinkled some of my screened dragline tailings on the ice for traction. It provided great traction! It also melted the glacier! The black 3/8 minus absorbed the heat from the sun and melted several feet of ice within only a few days.

I've done the same, only not for traction. I have used wood stove ashes, which also attract the sun's heat and melt through ice nicely.. They serve well as a low (no) cost ice melting agent.
