Motor and pump wanted

Post by Jim_Alaska » Sat Sep 15, 2018 1:07 am

A friend of mine needs to find someone who would like to sell a motor and pump combined. he would like something n the 3-5 hp range and mentioned that he would consider a Briggs. He wants something he can put on a back pack
and haul in to remote places.

If you have such an animal you can contact me since he doesn't have a computer or phone.

Those motor/pump combinations are made for small irrigation purposes, not running a jetted dredge. As such, they lack the closer tolerances of our mining pumps. They will move some water, but not generated the needed pressures to power your suction jet (at least, not very well).

Light enough for a backpack? I don't think so.

Yeah, I know, I told him the same thing but he insisted it would work. I told him I would advertise it for him, bu that was quite a while ago. He doesn't have a lot of money so is trying to get by the best he can. I think I'll probably delete this thread simply because he would just be throwing his money away and it won't work anyway.

There’s a small Keene pump on eBay right now that should fill his needs.. need to source a motor though.

2.5 stroke;

Probably supposed to say... "2.4 HP"... and it weighs only 4 pounds.

Harbor Freight sells centrifugal pumps like this.

It's hard to find these on the used market that aren't worn out.

Thanks Chuck, I'll tell him about it. If it turns out to be too much $$$ for him I am going to pull the post.

Harbor Freight;

I wouldn't depend on a Harbor Freight pump in a prospecting venture. By the time you replace it a few times, you have paid the price of a new pump from a mining outlet.

I used a small Honda pump that came with my Proline 3" Combo... It lasted a couple seasons running only on a part-time basis.

Pricing on the smallest Honda GXH50 (2.5 HP) engine is $473.00 and the HP100 pump is another $360.00 from Proline.

I understand also that cost is a factor for many prospectors. It's a challenge to find good, dependable equipment on a limited budget.

Jim, I recommend keeping the post up because it may eventually prove fruitful. It also gives insight for other prospectors that some of this equipment is relatively expensive and hard to find on the used market. Being persistent and watching yard sales can pay off too! :)
