Re: DIGHEM Interp...
In the post previous to this you noted that the computer "model" doesn't work. I am no scientist and have very limited education, but have found this in many cases that use "models". If the model doesn't work and you are not trained in this field there doesn't seem to be any point in trying to interpret.

Jim,
Throw in the towel?
I hope you don't think I came this far to throw in the towel.
Stick around!

Re: DIGHEM Interp...
No Chuck, I am not advocating throwing in the towel at all. My observation and possible gripe was with a "model". In your further posts you explain very precisely the working and methods of metal detectors. And I have used them and observed the factors you describe. Your explanation is accurate.
None-the-less, my issue is solely with the "model", especially if said model doesn't work. Because of this you even say, "WE CANNOT KNOW whether the DATA or the INTERPRETATION is VALID anywhere in the survey."
We have somewhat the same problem with hand held detectors that supposedly "discriminate". The so called discrimination is not always accurate, leaving the prospector with the oft stated remedy of; Dig Everything.
Please understand that am not trying to be argumentative here, just stating my observances and reasoning based on what you describe and my personal experiences. I'm just trying to make some sense of all this information given that the "model" doesn't always work. This would seem to leave the prospector that is lacking "Interpretation" skills at a distinct disadvantage.
But please carry on. The information you have provided is invaluable and I am sure will be of great use to others. This is what makes our forum one of the better ones online simply because people can't get information of this caliber anywhere else.
