Re: Remote Prospecting?
I really don't know. The time I was up there was 2006, 2007, and 2008 for a month each year.

About 500,000 ounces of placer GOLD has been produced at Livengood. No lode gold has been produced!
Tower Hill Mines acquired the majority of the land around Livengood and is developing a large scale mine to recover an average grade of 0.65 grams per metric Tonne of GOLD from 430 million metric Tonnes of ore. If my math is correct, that's about 9 million Troy ounces of GOLD.
Here's a link to the Pre-feasibility study they recently published:
https://www.ithmines.com/_resources/tec ... 01-R00.pdf
The take-away for Remote Prospectors is the information contained in pre-feasibility reports. The reports provide a source of learning about the mining methods, extraction and processing needed to get the GOLD into a marketable form.
From the report, there is also insight to the nature of the ore, the orebody and the costs involved.
Another take-away for prospectors is the information related to the property owners - many small miners that in the process are leasing their mining claims to ITH.
Stick around! There's more!

Chuck, this project is huge. his is not the one I posted about earlier, that one was 26 years before this new one. I read through the entire PDF, fascinating reading. Although I have had a lot of "feet on the ground" in this very area, it was well before I ever even thought about mining. My experience there was as a trapper, so naturally, I covered a lot of ground and studied the terrain. It was not until a lot later that I was getting interested in mining and took note of things I had seen, that at the time I had no interest in or knowledge of.
This area around Livengood has always been of interest, but only in a mining sense in later years. I never prospected there, most of my prospecting was closer to Fairbanks, But looking back through the years and remembering my time in the area of Livengood, I can see the potential, which proves out by mining companies such as this one that have the knowledge and resources to develop viable prospects. This company has acquired a tremendous amount of ground, in preparation for a huge project.
This all gets my juices flowing, even though I am too old to do anything about what I know, or suspect, in regard to my actual knowledge of that area. One of the intriguing things that crossed my mind when reading this report was the ridge that borders Livengood to the north. The engineer's graphs, as well as history may indicate reserves farther north of Livengood, possibly over that ridge, in the headwaters of Hess Creek. The reports indicate the possibility of the source of gold at Livengood to be this ridge. "1.6 Property History Gold was first discovered in the gravels of Livengood Creek in 1914 (Brooks, 1916) and led to the founding of the Town of Livengood. Subsequently, more than 500,000 oz of placer gold has been produced. From 1914 through the 1970s, the primary focus of prospecting activity was placer deposits. Historically, prospectors considered Money Knob and the associated ridgeline the source of the placer gold. Prospecting"
Knowing what I know now, and if I still lived there, I would check this out. In my later years in Alaska I had the know-how and ability to access this area, I also had a much larger dredge to sample with. But, as usual, hindsight is always 20/20.

Re: Remote Prospecting?
Jim,
Alaska and GOLD and prospecting combined with uncertain times. Remote prospecting offers hope to a world that needs a path to self reliance. Your forum offers that path.
Thank you!
