Re: Wow.... Canada has lost it..............
JED,
Canada is simply a different country with different laws, policies and procedures, however they suffer from the very same core problems that we also share.
Here in the US, where we all used to strive to progress in intelligently using natural resources (you know, to further our way of life) we now seem to be in a mindless death spiral when it comes to mining and other restrictions. Simply put, "The Patients are Running the Asylum."
"Shooting ourselves in the foot" doesn't even come close to describing the effects these social engineering nuts strive for. Where will it go, well, no one knows -- and it just seems to get worse and worse, what with breeding all the common sense out of this current crop and then trusting them to "somehow do things right".
One of the worst travesties is that the judges in courtrooms are making obviously wrong decisions based on personally centered benefits or rewards. They aren't required, at any time, to render judgements based, as we all used to assume, on legal precedents. Dis-allowing testimony to skew verdicts toward thinly justify and pre-determined results used to be very rare - and now they seem to be almost daily occurrences.
If it wasn't so tragic, and if it didn't go so completely against our way of life, then it could, with skill and care, be worked around -- but I guess that just isn't the way things go anymore.

I think that even though it is so tragic, it can still be worked around with "skill and care".

Can't throw a sluice in a stream in B.C., but it's been that way for a long time now, no discharge directly into the stream.
Panning is allowed in B.C. and Alberta, so not sure why Quebec would think of any need to outlaw panning, strange decision.
Lots and lots of placer mining still going on in B.C. and lots of nice gold still being recovered.
Sorry about what's happening in some places with mining and prospecting restrictions; it's a crying shame when radical groups misrepresent to get their way, and that has happened more than once.
All the best,
Lanny

The work-around...
I have been mining GOLD in Alaska for the past ten years. Yep, it includes Suction Dredging.
My mine has a mine life of 70 years in Yukon GOLD values - all at eye-ball level.
Every year, I depart Seattle and watch Canada roll by! Next day, I'm mining GOLD.

Alaska is flat-out beautiful, and I sure miss dredging, used to have a permit in B.C., now getting harder and harder to get. I'm glad you're doing so well and having such a grand time.Geowizard wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 2:55 amJim is right!Jim_Alaska wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 1:28 amI think that even though it is so tragic, it can still be worked around with "skill and care".

Re: Wow.... Canada has lost it..............
Finding the "work around" is what separates the pros from the pretenders. If you don't want it bad enough to cut through the bullshit and the obstacles that are in your way (gov or whatever) then you are a prime example of the eager noob chechakos that explode onto the scene and the forums and then just as quickly disappear. The nice thing about this forum is that almost everyone on it has boots on the ground experience and has the persistence, perseverance and patience to succeed at this game.

I am but a simple animal;
I'm like a perimecium in a petri dish... You poke me on one side and I move over a little!
Is it fun? Hell no!
It's a business. I have invested my life in this business.
